The Flirty Girl Urgently Needs Your Help
My good friend Stacie Tamaki of The Flirty Guide emailed me about a month ago with some sad news. Her 44-year-old cousin Tami, a working mom with 2 young kids, has been diagnosed with a bone marrow disease very similar to Leukemia called Myelosdysplasia. She is in urgent need of a Stem Cell/Bone Marrow Transplant.
During this time, Stacie created a website and a Facebook group page for Tami, and she is launching a Nationwide Donor Drive using mail-in test kits that can be ordered online or over the phone. Testing for Ethnic Minorities is free and the cost for Caucasians to be tested is reduced thanks to a Federal grant.
Each day 6,000 people are looking for a life saving marrow match. Of the 7.5 million people in the National Donor Registry, 73% are Caucasian, 7.2% are Asian and only 0.4% are Japanese American. There is a critical need for minorities of every ethnicity to join as any patient’s best chance of finding a match is within their own ethnic group.
I have just registered with the donor program and am waiting to see if I qualify. If I do, they will send me a test kit. Please join us in helping those who are in need.
